Samurai Mask Drawing

Hello there everyone and welcome to the first art blog of 2026. For the first drawing of the year I’ve decided to work on a little fanart drawing of my favorite game of 2025, which is Ghost of Yotei. I don’t have that much time to play any games anymore, but I did take the time to play this one, and I knew I wanted to draw something from the game. Where Im from its a tradition that you wear funny hats or mask for New Year Eve, and that's why Im working on this one!

For the base layer I used a Mimosa Yellow (YG00) on grey paper it becomes a bit more muted and gives the mask a bit of a worn down/weathered look, for all the stadig I used Warm Grays as they blend very well with the yellow. I also added a ton of small details like small cracks, and streaks with a Black pencil.

For the teeth I used Golden Yellow (Y17) Yellow Ochre (YR23) and Lionet Gold (Y28)

I like how the teeth turned out. It is almost an antique gold/bronze effect! I made sure to use a white gelly roll pen for some highlights.

My favorite part of the mask is the "broken" Design. You can see that the mask have been broken somehow, but it is a Japanese art form to put the pieces back together with gold, and creating something new out of something that was destroyed. For this part I used my own gold ink from Windsor and Newton. I bought 2 small bottles almost 8 years ago, and it still works, and I thought it would be perfect for this drawing. The ink looks supercool while it is drying as it almost seems to be alive while it is settling down. And the shine when it is fully dried is amazing.

I think this is a strong start to my 2026 portfolio, and I can't wait to see what Im gonna create throughout the year. I hope you all liked this first entry and stay tuned for more!
