Morning Suit Drawing

Hey everyone and welcome to this blog post. The series continues and for this month im drawing one of my favorite dress codes... The morning attire. Most people in the world doesnt even know what it is anymore, but i really like the look and feel of it. The morning suit contains the long morning tailcoat, which is the key different between this and a regular suit jacket. Combined with a double breasted waistcoat and the cashmere striped trousers, it looks amazing.

I decided to draw this suit as i feel like it is a bit more "spring" like and i wore this exact set for my parents annual easter dinner. Even before the sketching began i knew that i would like to add many details and therefore i made this drawing slightly bigger and cut the legs off at the knees, so i could focus more on the face and coat.

For the colors i used my usual pallete when it comes to these oldschool menswear illustrations. So pale fruit pink (E00) for the undertone. Pinkisk white (R00) and blush (R20) for the reddish cheeks. And light and pale grape (V91) and (V95) for Shadows. I also used a black pencil and a a color less blender for the smaller details. For the hair i used buttercup yellow (Y21) as my undertone. And full ivory (E43) and warm Greys on top.

For the tie i used light crockery blue (B93) and a color less blender for the main color. And for the stripes i used a sky marker.(B24) For he waistcoat i used cadmium yellow, (Y15) and Golden Yellow (Y17) for a little spark of color. And the shading was made with warm grey 7. The waistcoast is actually a vintage one i bought in the beginning of last year and Ive been using every excuse to wear it for the morning coat i used Cool Grey 7 and a black marker. I also used a grey pencil and a black pencil for shading and detailing. For the silk piping around the lapels and edge of the coat i used cool Grey 5 and 7. I also used a white gelly roll pen to make it shine a bit more.

For the cashmere trousers i used Cool Grey 5, 7 and a black marker... To create all the fine stripes i used my finest fineliner (the 0.03mm) and i think it worked very well. In the end i actually went over most of the drawing again with a black pencil to darken the coat, and the shading in the hair and face, and then this drawing was complete. I think this is my favorite so far. Im especially proud of how many details i could fit into the face. Remember that the faces of these drawing a not much bigger than a penny. I hope you enjoyed this blog post and will stay turned for the upcoming drawings that im working on. Have a great week!
