Vintage Burberry illustration
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. It is time for the next vintage inspired illustration. Spring is just around the corner and thats why I’ve decided to draw my old Burberry trench coat! I own two vintage Burberry trench coats. A blue and a beige one, and I went with the Beige colored, as it basically the signature color of a trench coat these days.
After a loose sketch it was time for some colors. For the face I used my standard color pallete with pale fruit pink, (E00) pinkish White, (R00) blush, (R20) pale grape, (V91) and light grape. (V95)
I also used a soft sun, (E21) and full ivory (E43) for shading a some of the hair.
For the hat and trousers I used Cool Grey 5, and 7. For the shirt and tie I used Frost blue (B00) and Cardinal. (R59) Now it is time for the main piece of this drawing. And i really had a hard time picking the colors for it. It was so difficult to find the right light beige color that I think I tried every single brown and yellow marker that I own on a piece of paper Surprisingly it was the buttercup yellow Y21 that won me over. It is one of those markers that i placed on the paper and immediately tosed aside, but once it dried it actually worked really well. And I combined it with warm grey 3, and 5 for the Shadows. The warm grey gives it a bit more Rugged/old feel, which I really like about it. It is still cold where i live, so I would still be wearing some brown leather Gloves, and for those I used chamois, (E35) Sepia, (E37) and Dark bark. (E49)
In the end I used a black pencil a went over the entire drawing to darken som Shadows and added a few smaller detail, and that really made a difference. It is also funny how you can see on the progress pictures that the coat changes color after the ink settles and Dries. I’m very happy with this one, and im already sketching out ideas for the next one. I’ve seen a Bunch of creaters online making fashion/style drawings with copic markers, but it's almost always womens dresses and skirts. So I’m very happy that I’m doing something similar for the men, even though I know that most men don't appreciate suits and long overcoat anymore... I hope that it will change someday, and i hope that I might have inspired you with this blog post to draw something similar, or that you've learned something. See you all in the next post.
