The Emerald-Copic Art

Hi there everyone. For this week’s art blog I’m doing something quite detailed. Im attempting to draw an Emerald. I’ve always liked the 'Emerald cut' itself, so i thought it would be a cool and challenging project.

I decided early on to use grey toned paper, because the highlights would be crucial for a drawing like this one. I made a fairly detailed sketch, so I knew where I was gonna use the different colors. Speaking of colors, I actually only used 5 markers... I started off with an almost blue color, but it is called mint green. (BG13) I gives the piece a bit of a color swap in some of important lighter areas. After that I used spectrum green, (G02) nile green, (G02) forrest green, (G17) and pine tree green (G29) for the darkest areas.

I also used a white pencil and a white gelly roll pen. Like the light Blueish green marker, I also used a light yellow pencil in the right corner of the gem. This made the highlights feel a bit more natural and gives the drawing more depth and warmth.

Toward the end I gave the Emerald a little shadow and added a few highlights as well. This was the last part that made the entire stone feel so much more 'real' and it really payed off. I hope you guys enjoyed this weeks blog post and I hope it was somewhat helpful for all of you out there, who might be working on some gem Drawings.
